Allelic Recombination and Its Relation
نویسندگان
چکیده
N recent years a number of examples have been reported in which crosses Ibetween allelic mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisim (ROMAN 1956a; ROMAN and JACOB 1958) produce nonmutant progeny with a frequency which is higher than is expected from reverse mutation. Such revertants can be shown to result from an event which does not have the characteristics of crossing over. ROMAN and JACOB (1958) have described one such case in mitotically dividing diploid yeast cells involving two allelic isoleucine-requiring mutants of different origin. This system has been examined further in the present study by including two more allelic mutants at this locus. The relationship between allelic recombination and the recombination of outside markers among spontaneous revertants has been examined in detail and the mutant sites of the four alleles have been ordered on the chromosome.

Allelic diversity among Helicobacter pylori outer membrane protein genes homB and homA generated by recombination.
Recombination is one of the main mechanisms contributing to Helicobacter pylori genomic variability. homB and homA are paralogous genes coding for H. pylori outer membrane proteins (OMPs). Both genes display allelic variation yielded by polymorphisms of the genes' middle regions, with six different alleles. This study used bioinformatic and statistical analyses to evaluate whether the allelic d...
متن کاملAllelic and ectopic recombination between Ty elements in yeast.
Allelic and nonallelic (ectopic) recombination events were analyzed in a set of isogenic strains that carry marked Ty elements. We found that allelic recombination between Ty elements occurred at normal frequencies both in meiosis and mitosis. The marked Ty elements were involved in a large variety of different types of ectopic recombination and this variety was greater in mitosis than in meios...
متن کاملThe M26 hotspot of Schizosaccharomyces pombe stimulates meiotic ectopic recombination and chromosomal rearrangements.
Homologous recombination is increased during meiosis between DNA sequences at the same chromosomal position (allelic recombination) and at different chromosomal positions (ectopic recombination). Recombination hotspots are important elements in controlling meiotic allelic recombination. We have used artificially dispersed copies of the ade6 gene in Schizosaccharomyces pombe to study hotspot act...
متن کاملRestriction of ectopic recombination by interhomolog interactions during Saccharomyces cerevisiae meiosis.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae meiosis, recombination occurs frequently between sequences at the same location on homologs (allelic recombination) and can take place between dispersed homologous sequences (ectopic recombination). Ectopic recombination occurs less often than does allelic, especially when homologous sequences are on heterologous chromosomes. To account for this, it has been suggeste...
متن کاملAllelic and ectopic interactions in recombination-defective yeast strains.
Ectopic recombination in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been investigated by examining the effects of mutations known to alter allelic recombination frequencies. A haploid yeast strain disomic for chromosome III was constructed in which allelic recombination can be monitored using leu2 heteroalleles on chromosome III and ectopic recombination can be monitored using ura3 heteroalleles on...
